Choices you have:
- Vaccinate
- Vaccinate with only Thimerosal free vaccines: Make sure you check
early with your doctor or the clinic to make sure that she/he has the
appropriate vaccines ready or is willing to give them. You may be required to
go to another clinic or facility. For some "odd" reason, often physicians tend
to only use products from one pharmaceutical company to the exclusion of
others, and if that company does not sell a Thimerosal free vaccine, one will
need to be ordered.
- Separate multiple ingredient vaccines into single dose units and/or
selectively vaccinate: Some
doctors will not allow you to make this important choice, so you might be
forced to find another physicians who will give the single dose vaccinations.
This is one of the first questions that should be asked when considering a new
doctor as it reveals a lot about sensitivities about a patient first approach.
The value in separating vaccines is if your child or yourself has a bad
reaction you will know specifically which vaccine it was for which may help
when reporting problems to the authorities.

- Refuse to have your child vaccinated This choice can be the most
difficulty for the parent, since it goes against the requirements of most
states an school districts. Be sure to check the law in your state to
determine what specific reasons you may use to refuse vaccinations. Saying you
"Forgot" is no excuse and can be grounds for neglect. A number of states will
allow refusals based on certain religious reasons (need to be clearly involved
so if you plan this route then start getting active now), certain personal
reasons, but these vary widely, so find out what is required by your
individual state. Once you know, you need to prepare a written statement to
provide the school stating the specific reasons why. If you can clearly
document your reasons for the school, they may be more likely to approve your
request for an exemption from vaccinations.
It is interesting to note that almost all
states allow a religious exemption to vaccination except Mississippi, West
Virginia and Arkansas.
